Characters: I like them +1
While I wish there would have been more playable characters, the few that we got were decent. Their personalities were believable and not at all annoying. Honestly very seldom are Final Fantasy characters not likable for me.
Graphics: I like them +1
Graphics don't really mean much to me, They look really good and are basically movie quality. I can't really think of any reason to complain about them,
Music: It's okay +0
Games now adays are basically becoming movies and are hence taking a movie-like score rather than the VGM I grew up with and enjoy. The fact that they had to add in previous titles to play while you're in the car is testimony that FF15's actual soundtrack is very boring and not very memorable.
Story: It's okay +0
Don't get me wrong, I liked the story. But here's what I didn't like. I didn't like that I had to watch a movie first to see what the hell was going on. I didn't liek how there are large gaps of missing story. I don't like how Square Enix have openly admitted that they cut a large portion of the game. I can tell they did, it feels very incomplete.
Overall the story is VERY short. They throw a lot of filler at you to make the game feel longer (Driving, garbage quests)
Gameplay: I hate it! -1
I don't like open-world games. They tend to be full of crappy side quests. (Go kill something, Go Fetch something) And guess what, this one is too. The battle system is the most basic it possibly could be. Hold down a button to attack, another to dodge. I just feel like this could have been done much better. Final Fantasy 12 had a brilliant Real-Time battle system that allowed you to program your characters with a Gambit system. I would have preferred something closer to that.
Now the worst part of the game for me, the god damn car. A large portion of the game is just driving the car to your next destination. Oh but not at night because the baddies come out and attack you....
If you were to remove everything I
I do however like the the camp system, in a big open world like this, they had to do something like this where you set up camp.
Final Score: 6/10
This game is Average. As a huge Final Fantasy fan over the years I can't really defend a lot of what this game did. I'm not usually one to complain about game design decisions, but I couldn't help it this time. It just doesn't feel like a final fantasy game to me. Had it been given a different title, a non-Final Fantasy one, I would not have purchased it because I knew going in that it wasn't the type of game I enjoy.
All games start out a 5/10 and gain or lose points from there.
